Stevenson outside hitter Abby Inman stood out as one of Lake County’s top volleyball players last season. Despite her impressive performance, Inman sought to improve further. ‘Right after my junior season ended, I started working out in our school gym, which is well-equipped,’ she said. ‘I took private lessons at Sky High volleyball club with expert coaches and joined the elite team. This truly helped me gear up for my senior season.’
The 5-foot-11 Inman made significant progress over the summer. Stevenson coach Tim Crow noted her domination in summer league play, describing her as one of the best players on the court during this period.
Inman’s contributions could enhance the Patriots’ success, who went 24-13 last season, second in the North Suburban Conference, and reached the Class 4A sectional semifinals. Last year, she recorded 328 kills and 270 digs, earning all-conference recognition and an all-state honorable mention. Inman served as team captain for the first time, gaining valuable experience. ‘I was familiar with practice routines and identified key areas for improvement when challenges arose,’ she explained. ‘As a captain, I learned that leadership involves supporting teammates and ensuring everyone succeeds.’
Senior right-side hitter Audri Linnane praised Inman’s reliability in critical situations. ‘Abigail is dependable,’ Linnane said. ‘In pressure situations, we count on her to score. She plays aggressively, has numerous shots, and her strategic placement and enhanced power have made her indispensable.’
Inman values her team, transitioning from tennis to volleyball in seventh grade. ‘I enjoyed being part of a team sport like volleyball,’ Inman said, contrasting it with tennis. ‘The friendships and competition are aspects I love.’
Starting on Stevenson’s freshman A team, Inman expanded her skills, evolving into a versatile six-rotation outside hitter. ‘Initially, my focus was on hitting hard,’ she stated. ‘But school volleyball taught me that winning is the goal. I adapted by using tips and roll shots to secure rallies and improve our position.’
Coach Crow highlighted Inman’s attributes from her freshman year. ‘Abby’s focus was evident even then,’ he said. ‘She remains one of the most driven players today, continuously improving.’
