Fans planning to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup might have a new way to secure match tickets without navigating FIFA’s typical ticketing system. Airbnb recently announced that selected rentals in all 16 host cities will include free match tickets as part of the stay package.
Dave Stephenson, Airbnb’s chief business officer, stated that Airbnb hosts provide more than accommodation—they offer an authentic way to experience destinations. He emphasized that during this World Cup, some hosts are offering free tickets across host cities.
This promotion will run throughout June and July, connecting accommodation with match access in one booking. However, the availability and qualification for this offer are limited.
Why It Matters
Acquiring World Cup tickets has always posed challenges due to high costs and competitive demand. Tickets can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars based on demand and the tournament phase. Airbnb’s package combines two hurdles—tickets and lodging—possibly providing a solution for accessing high-demand matches.
The World Cup is anticipated to boost tourism, yet previous data indicated uneven demand for hotels and short-term rentals, with some areas below expectations. Offering free tickets may help stimulate bookings in slower markets.
Details to Note
Airbnb started providing free FIFA World Cup tickets with specific bookings on June 10. This offer is only applicable to eligible listings, which are spread across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada in all 16 host cities. Guests can find listings during the tournament in June and July.
“I grew up playing soccer—it’s been part of my life since I could walk. Sharing that with guests by getting them into a World Cup match is something I never imagined when first listing my home on Airbnb,” said Federico Zimmerman, an Airbnb host in Dallas, Texas.
Airbnb plans to distribute over 1,300 tickets through this initiative. Listings with included tickets display a soccer ball icon, and each guest receives a ticket after booking confirmation. Airbnb also promotes World Cup-related experiences, though these are separate from the ticket-included stays.
World Cup Ticket Costs
For the 2026 World Cup, ticket prices vary substantially. Entry-level tickets start at approximately $60 for group-stage matches, while knockout-stage tickets range from about $100 to over $1,000. Final matches may see ticket prices reach or exceed $6,000.
Given FIFA’s dynamic pricing policy, actual ticket costs fluctuate based on demand, teams, and the host city. Airbnb’s bundled offer may attract travelers seeking consistent pricing.
According to Airbnb, travelers can search for stays in host cities and identify listings with World Cup tickets through a soccer ball icon. After booking, hosts provide ticket access details.
Tickets are available for every guest within the accommodation’s capacity. Bookings are released in phases, aligned with tournament stages from group rounds to the final. The average cost for eligible homes is about $385 per night, although prices vary by city and property.
Accommodation Booking Trends
Despite expectations of increased tourism, data shows uneven booking trends. About 80% of hotels in host cities are experiencing lower occupancy than initially forecasted, according to a report by the American Hotel and Lodging Association.
In Philadelphia, rooms were still available during match dates, showing underwhelming bookings. AirDNA’s director of economics and forecasting, Bram Gallagher, noted uneven benefits, with some places performing well and others seeing limited impact.
Roughly 60% of Philadelphia-area Airbnbs and Vrbos expect occupancy on game days. Yet, data from AirDNA showed less than half were booked by May.
A spokesperson for Airbnb highlighted that their partnership with FIFA was announced a year ago, aiming to offer fans an opportunity to attend matches from start to finish.
Looking Ahead
While Airbnb has not directly linked the ticket promotion to slower bookings, its launch coincides with the tournament start. It may serve as an incentive to attract last-minute travelers. Availability remains limited, and competition for eligible listings is expected to be fierce for those seeking free World Cup tickets.
