Apple Pay appeared to face service disruptions on Friday as users reported difficulties with transactions and fund transfers. Downdetector, an outage-tracking website, noted a spike in reports of issues from Apple Pay users who were unable to complete their payments. Just before 6 p.m. ET, nearly 1,400 complaints were documented, primarily concerning fund transfers and payment problems.

As of the report, Apple had not officially recognized a widespread outage nor provided insights into the cause of these difficulties. Newsweek reached out to the company via email for comments.

Apple Pay enables users to make contactless purchases and online payments via iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac. Issues like Friday’s outage have occurred before, affecting Apple Pay and related Wallet services. Users have occasionally reported failed transactions and Apple Cash transfer issues, as well as difficulties accessing Wallet features. Although most disruptions are resolved within a short time, users may temporarily encounter challenges in completing purchases or sending funds.

Understanding the ‘Unable to Connect to Wallet Services’ Error

Many users impacted by the Apple Pay disruption saw an error message: ‘Unable to Connect to Wallet Services.’ This message typically means the Wallet app cannot connect with Apple’s backend systems. Such a situation prevents users from adding cards, validating payment methods, or processing transactions.

While the precise cause of Friday’s issues remains unclear, similar errors often arise due to server outages or disruptions affecting Apple Pay and Wallet services. This is a developing situation with updates expected as more information becomes available.
