The Arizona Cardinals have made a strategic move to secure their offensive line talent by extending the contract of center Hjalte Froholdt. Having started his NFL career as a guard after being drafted in the fourth round in 2019, Froholdt transitioned to center and signed a two-year deal with the Cardinals in March 2023. The franchise has now extended his contract for an additional two years worth $20 million as of August 25. This agreement will keep Froholdt in Arizona through the 2028 season.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Froholdt’s impressive performance and stability on the field have earned him this extension. He referred to Froholdt as “one of their most consistent performers and anchors of their offensive line.” Despite Arizona’s overall struggles in maintaining a strong line, Froholdt stands out for his reliability and consistent play.
The Cardinals experienced significant challenges with their offensive line, conceding the fifth-most sacks in the league last season. Nevertheless, Froholdt’s role as a pivot has proven invaluable. He brings both skill and durability, having started every regular season game since September 2023, contributing to his reputation as a reliable player.
While Froholdt’s extension brings stability to the offensive line, further improvement is necessary. Right tackle Elijah Wilkinson, age 31, is yet to be considered a top-tier starter, while guard Isaiah Adams needs to demonstrate more potential to secure a long-term position with the team. However, with Froholdt secured for the next three seasons, the Cardinals can focus on addressing other areas of concern in their lineup.
