An Arizona school board member, Kimberly Fisher, experiences pressure to resign after a controversial gesture during a public meeting. The incident happened at a Deer Valley Unified School District Governing Board meeting on May 26. A video captured Fisher appearing to make a Nazi salute and saying ‘Heil, heil,’ which caused significant uproar.
The dispute arose during a debate about scheduling a community study session. Fisher disagreed with holding the session in the afternoon, stating it would make it hard for community members to attend. She argued that the whole point of a study session is community input. The board president, Paul Carver Jr., adjourned the meeting as the agenda item was not posted, potentially violating Arizona’s Open Meeting Law.
Carver explained in a Facebook video that Fisher’s gesture and comments followed his motion to adjourn. He stated that while some claimed Fisher was justified by feeling controlled, such gestures are inappropriate in any context.
The district criticized Fisher’s actions, asserting she acted independently and did not represent the district’s values. The Deer Valley Educators Association also condemned her conduct and called for her resignation, labeling her actions as unfit for public service.
Fisher responded with a Facebook livestream, emphasizing her criticism of Carver. She described his leadership as dictatorial and advised against supporting him in future elections. In a historical reference, she compared his actions to dictatorial regimes, naming Hitler and Pol Pot.
Carver addressed community queries regarding the lack of disciplinary action against Fisher. He explained that Arizona law restricts school boards from disciplining elected members. He described Fisher’s behavior as repetitive and unprofessional.
Deer Valley Unified School District serves over 33,000 students in areas like north Phoenix, Glendale, and Peoria. Fox News Digital reached out to Fisher for further comments.
