A man identified as Patrick Havas, aged 38, reportedly attempted to approach Amy Acton, the Democratic candidate for Ohio governor, during her campaign event at the Canfield Fair. This incident occurred on Sunday and involved multiple disruptions as Havas pushed through the crowd, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Havas is being held at the Mahoning County Jail. He faces charges of disorderly conduct and two assault charges. Reports indicate he is a registered Republican and a licensed nurse. His latest voting record shows participation in the 2024 election.
The event took place in the Mahoning County Democrat Party tent at a significant annual fair. As per the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office, Havas was recording with his cell phone while forcefully making his way through the attendees.
The Sheriff’s Office stated, “The suspect, armed with a Taser and two pistols, did not brandish any weapons.”
Law enforcement swiftly responded to Havas’ actions. Acton’s protection detailed composed of Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers apprehended him. During his charge, Havas reportedly knocked over two elderly individuals using mobility scooters. They fell during the confrontation.
Sheriff Jerry Greene shared with CBS News that the suspect had additional items like brass knuckles; however, none of these were removed from their holsters. The Sheriff’s Office plans to file formal charges upon consulting the County Prosecutor. Additionally, the state patrol is handling a possible threat assessment.
