On April 7, 2026, Rep. Eric Swalwell addressed a town hall meeting in Sacramento, California. Following his resignation from Congress in April due to allegations of sexual assault and misconduct, voters in California’s 14th Congressional District will elect his successor. The district includes part of Alameda County in the Bay Area.
The seat will remain under Democratic control, as both candidates in the runoff are Democrats. State Sen. Aisha Wahab secured 42.8% of the vote in June’s primary, surpassing former Dublin Mayor Melissa Hernandez, who earned 16.8%. Wahab is known for her progressive stance, whereas Hernandez is viewed as a moderate.
The race has drawn financial interest from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and another super PAC opposing it, highlighting AIPAC’s influence in Democratic races this year. Polls will close at 11 p.m. EDT.
