Gastrointestinal issues have recently made headlines, and one famous athlete is talking about his experience. Tennessee Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley shared details about a challenging offseason stomach bug.
Ridley revealed the cause of his ailment, attributing it to a meal from a popular fast-casual chain. This restaurant is known for offering burritos, burrito bowls, and various combinations of protein, rice, and toppings. On Saturday, Ridley discussed the bug’s impact.
“Oh, yeah, I did,” he explained. “I’ve actually had that a couple of times in my life; maybe three or four times. It’s not a good thing. It’s like a 24-hour thing, but it really puts you down pretty good.”
He mentioned losing approximately 15 pounds in just 24 hours due to the illness. Such rapid weight loss highlights the intensity of the bug.
When asked if lettuce contributed to the issue, Ridley named Chipotle as the source. It’s crucial to note that Chipotle has not been associated with current Cyclospora incidents affecting many. The company has been contacted for comment.
While Ridley’s condition has improved, there’s frustration with Mexican food being blamed for stomach issues. The assumption that Mexican food causes gastrointestinal problems is common, though it might be unfair. People often connect this cuisine with digestive struggles as they do with remedies like Tums or Febreze.
Mexican food may not be as easy on digestion as other types, but consumers are aware of the risk. If you want to avoid discomfort, opting for milder foods like saltines might be a safer choice.
