An advisory committee from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which includes members connected to the industry, has recommended easing regulations on six peptides. This decision followed objections from FDA scientists concerned about the inadequate data supporting these compounds.
Peptides are marketed for various benefits, such as faster healing, youthful skin, and longer lifespans. However, there is little evidence confirming their effectiveness and safety. Despite these concerns, the FDA panel suggested that two additional peptides could be compounded, adding to the existing list.
This recommendation concluded a two-day meeting, sparking discussions about whether the FDA’s measures to prevent untested drugs from reaching consumers are being weakened.
