The San Fermín festival in Pamplona features the thrilling Running of the Bulls (el encierro), where participants race alongside fighting bulls. The photo, captured at the Mercaderes Curve, shows this critical moment as the bulls turn into Estafeta Street.
The Photographic Challenge
Photographers draw cards daily to determine their positions during the run. Miguel considers this curve one of the most intriguing, yet perilous, spots due to its sharp bend and the bulls’ high speed.
“I stood atop wooden barricades, 2.5 meters (8 feet) high, to achieve a wide view.”
The narrow streets and fast pace necessitated a fast shutter speed of 1/1250 and a high ISO of 2000. Miguel used one of his three cameras, capturing numerous frames for AP.
