A male passenger on the Carnival Panorama cruise ship jumped overboard during the last full day of a week-long trip. The cruise, which set sail from Long Beach, California, on September 13, was returning from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, when the incident occurred.

A spokesperson for Carnival Cruise Line confirmed the event, stating, “A male guest aboard Carnival Panorama jumped overboard while the ship was sailing from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to Long Beach, California.” The spokesperson added that the company is supporting the family traveling with the passenger, expressing sympathy for them.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones,” the statement reads.

The situation unfolded after announcements about a missing guest were heard around 11 a.m. on Saturday, according to a Reddit user on board. The ship had left Puerto Vallarta at 8 p.m. on Thursday, and the search for the missing passenger began soon after the announcements.

At approximately 3 p.m., the ship reportedly reversed course, and by 3:30 p.m., a shipwide search was announced. Guests were instructed to return to their rooms, where security scanned their identification cards, following standard search procedures.

About an hour later, an announcement indicated the search continued. Around 5 p.m., the captain and cruise director confirmed the passenger had gone overboard after examining the ship’s CCTV footage. They informed guests that local authorities would handle the ongoing search and rescue operation, allowing guests to leave their rooms.

The family and traveling companions of the missing guest were informed of the situation and received support from the care team. By 7 p.m., passengers were told that the ship was expected to arrive in Long Beach by 9 a.m.
