Murakami’s impressive display came with his parents watching, both of whom threw the first pitches before the game. Murakami stated, ‘The last time my parents came, I was injured. Before this game, Murakami had not hit a home run in 13 games, totaling a stretch of 42 at-bats. His last home runs were on May 27 against the Minnesota Twins. A hamstring injury sidelined him on May 30, and he returned only on July 10 against the Athletics, earning one RBI. His exceptional comeback performance on Sunday was a significant catch-up.

During the game, Murakami initiated the team’s lead with a two-run home run in the first inning. Astros’ Jeremy Peña leveled the score with a third-inning homer. However, Romo’s run scored on Murakami’s grounder in the third inning restored the Sox’s lead. Venable highlighted Murakami’s contribution across all at-bats, ‘Every one of his at-bats today was huge,’ he stated.

Braden Montgomery made a notable defensive play by preventing a potential home run from LaMonte Wade Jr. with a leaping catch in the fourth inning. Sox starter Erick Fedde expressed his appreciation, highlighting Montgomery’s value to the team.

The Astros briefly tied the game with Taylor Trammell’s home run. Still, Vargas’s two-run homer in the sixth inning, his 22nd of the season, pushed the Sox ahead.
