Chrissy Metz Shares Her Experience with GLP-1 Medication

5 days ago 0

Chrissy Metz, known for her role on ‘This Is Us’, opens up about her decision to start using a GLP-1 medication. Initially hesitant, Metz, 45, shared with TODAY her approach: “I’m just not someone who follows trends.” However, after a friend informed her about the health benefits, including witnessing her father’s struggles with obesity, Metz considered the move: “Oh, maybe I can get ahead of it.”

Metz consulted her doctors, and with their approval, she began the treatment. Now collaborating with the healthcare company Ro, which dispenses GLP-1s via telehealth, she is exploring the benefits. These medications imitate a hormone that prompts the body to feel full, reducing cravings.

Metz stated she understands GLP-1s don’t offer immediate health transformation. The attempt follows numerous diets and group therapy sessions since she was 9, with no lasting success. “If nothing changes, nothing changes,” she expressed.

Since using the GLP-1 medication, Metz experiences less ‘food noise’, the preoccupation with eating. “It’s amazing,” she declared, admitting surprise that others experienced such changes. With newfound mental freedom, she engages creative thought processes.

Metz characterizes her journey not as an easy way out but a lifestyle shift. “People might think it’s magic, but diligence is key,” she remarked, emphasizing self-prioritization. In Broadway’s ‘& Juliet’, she attests to increased stamina over eight weekly performances. Positive changes include regulated menstrual cycles, reduced inflammation, and improved joint condition, leading to necessary costume adjustments.

Avoiding scale fixations, Metz focuses on broader lifestyle benefits. Reflecting on her choices, she opts for beneficial long-term consumption, including food, music, and television. Strength training, which she began a year ago under a trainer’s guidance, complements her stage dance and walking routines. As per WHO’s recommendation, this is particularly important during perimenopause.

For others contemplating GLP-1s, Metz advises thorough research. “Not everything suits everyone; be skeptical about what you consume,” she advises. Discussing preferences with a medical professional is crucial to informed decisions, she suggests. She acknowledges potential public scrutiny but remains resolute: “No matter what, people will talk, but they don’t live my life.” Ultimately, Metz encourages decisions based on personal health needs.
