Conviction and Aftermath of Karmelo Anthony’s Case

3 weeks ago 0

The aftermath of Karmelo Anthony’s murder conviction has evoked strong emotions from both his family and the family of Austin Metcalf, the victim. Anthony was convicted on Tuesday of fatally stabbing Metcalf at a high school track meet last year and sentenced to 35 years in prison. He has since filed an appeal.

Jeff Metcalf, Austin’s father, expressed a mix of emotions following the verdict. In an interview with CBS, he shared, “I had a little bit of sorrow because I’m human; and that poor boy is fixing to experience a life that I would not wish upon anyone.” Despite the tragedy, he has shown a degree of forgiveness towards Anthony.

Conversely, Anthony’s parents have loudly voiced their dissatisfaction with the trial’s outcome. According to Andrew Anthony, Karmelo’s father, their family believes there were many missed opportunities during the trial that denied their son a fair judgment. “We didn’t get justice,” he commented, alluding to the perceived mishandling of the case.

“They did a number on us,” added Andrew Anthony, reflecting on the family’s disappointment.

The trial and its aftermath have brought intense scrutiny and threats upon both families. Last August, a 911 call resulted in a SWAT team arriving at the Metcalf residence, a home in Frisco, Texas, with guns drawn. Jeff Metcalf continues to receive death threats and experienced a breach of personal safety due to the release of private information.

Supporters of Austin Metcalf rallied at the Collin County Courthouse when the verdict was announced. Meanwhile, Karmelo Anthony’s supporters have launched a social media campaign in his favor. An Instagram page, reportedly endorsed by Anthony’s girlfriend, Valeria Perez, has garnered several hundred followers, displaying the polarization surrounding the case.

In March 2025, just days before his death, Austin Metcalf posted a message on X expressing his faith and hope for the future. In recent weeks, this post has gained significant attention and engagement online, reflecting ongoing support for his memory.
