Quentin Burrell, a senior receiver and a Michigan recruit, cherishes his time at Mount Carmel. He appreciates the pageantry and glory of the football program. Burrell travels daily from Evanston, aware that his future lies in Ann Arbor; yet he values his final year as a high school athlete.

I’m going to be in college soon, but right now, I have to play where my feet are and do the best things I can,

Burrell said, emphasizing his connection to the team and campus.

Friday was a successful night for Burrell and his team, the host Caravan, who secured a 49-14 win over Providence in a Catholic League crossover match in Chicago. Burrell made four catches totaling 67 yards and scored a touchdown. The game spotlighted senior quarterback Brady Cloherty’s performance, as he completed 25 of 33 passes for 373 yards and seven touchdowns. Providence had standout moments as well, with junior tight end Jonathan Osborne scoring on a 93-yard pass from junior quarterback Dominic Vita. Osborne gathered 155 yards from three catches, while Vita threw for 218 yards.

Burrell’s 11-yard touchdown in the second quarter helped the Caravan secure a 28-14 lead by halftime. Junior receiver Marshaun Thornton praised Burrell’s dependable nature:

He’s just a humble guy who goes out there and is always dependable,

Thornton said, highlighting Burrell’s team ethos and positive contribution.

Burrell, along with fellow Michigan recruit Tavares Harrington, has played since age 13. Harrington appreciates Burrell’s balance between athletic skill and personal warmth:

You see the things he does on the field and then you see him in school. He’s so personable,

Harrington said.

Burrell’s dynamic play enhanced opportunities for his teammates, including junior tight end Ty Kennedy, who scored three touchdowns, and Thornton, who added a touchdown catch. Burrell highlights the collaborative spirit of the team:

We have a lot of playmakers here, so we’re going to have to spread the ball around,

he noted.

Family plays a significant role in Burrell’s life. His sister, Kali, who excelled academically and athletically at Michigan, serves as his role model:

My family has really raised me into this light,

Burrell explained. His sister’s influence set the stage for his own commitment to the Wolverines over other prestigious programs.

Burrell almost shifted his focus to basketball in eighth grade, but his father’s advice kept him in football, where he thrived. A three-year starter, he boasts two state championship rings and has set records with 142 catches and 2,396 yards, scoring 34 touchdowns during his first two seasons at Mount Carmel.

Reflecting on his journey, he remains focused on daily improvement:

I know my journey is ahead, but I have to keep getting better every day,

Burrell said.

On Friday, Burrell played only the first half, allowing senior receiver Danny Leyden to score in the third quarter. Burrell’s appreciation for his teammates is clear:

There’s nothing more I could ask for than being with my guys,

he expressed, valuing every moment shared with his teammates.
