Court Shows Video Testimony of Tyler Robinson Case

In Provo, Utah, video testimony from Lance Twiggs, the former partner of alleged Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson, is expected in court on Thursday. As the week-long preliminary hearing draws to a close, this evidence is crucial. The prosecution planned to present the video on Wednesday. However, objections from the defense led to Judge Tony Graf Jr. requesting redactions. The prosecution preferred to wait until Thursday morning to ensure adherence to the court order before presentation.

Erika Kirk, Charlie Kirk’s widow, supported by her mother-in-law Kathy Kirk, showed visible emotion in court. When the family lawyer, Jeff Neiman, requested the unredacted video be played publicly, Erika appeared to encourage him to proceed. Neiman argued that showing a redacted version might lead to public mistrust in the judicial system. He stated, “The Kirk family believes that if admitted as evidence, it should be visible to all. The court can ensure a fair trial regardless.”

Donald Trump Jr. commented that the evidence against Tyler Robinson appears clearer than previously thought. Robinson’s defense lawyer, Richard Novak, expressed concerns about airing a “confession” publicly before trial. Judge Graf agreed to remove about 16 minutes from the video as per the defense’s request, citing constitutional concerns.

The video reportedly includes texts, chat logs, and a note which the prosecution might interpret as a confession from Robinson. However, the defense does not agree with this characterization. Robinson appeared tense during the hearing, particularly during discussions of his relationship with Twiggs. He was seen to breathe deeply and adjust his attire often.

Some texts between Robinson and Twiggs have already been publicized. They reportedly include Robinson acknowledging being “stuck in Orem,” where the incident occurred, and taking responsibility for it. Parts regarding these texts are set for redaction before the video is shown, yet the judge will still consider them when determining probable cause. Judge Graf confirmed that the hearing will conclude by 5 p.m. on Friday, dispelling rumors of an extended session. At the day’s end, Erika and Kathy Kirk shared a poignant embrace.
