Michelle Goldberg, an opinion columnist for the New York Times, has criticized the Democratic National Committee’s 2024 election autopsy, describing the report as ‘mysterious,’ ‘anticlimactic,’ and ‘ridiculous.’ Her remarks highlight the internal party drama surrounding its release.
Goldberg asserted that the document remained undisclosed not due to its political nature but because it was flawed. She criticized Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin for altering his narrative regarding the report. Goldberg noted the lack of substance in the 192-page document, with no mention of key topics like ‘Israel’ and ‘Gaza.’
The report fails to address crucial issues such as the Democratic Party’s loss among Black and Latino men and its inability to connect with irregular voters. Goldberg speculated on whether it was composed by artificial intelligence, humorously suggesting that A.I. could have done better.
DNC Chair Ken Martin was criticized for not releasing the election autopsy, causing suspicion and fascination. Former Vice President Kamala Harris lost against President Donald Trump, prompting further scrutiny.
Martin initially campaigned on releasing the autopsy but later decided against making it public. This decision sparked suspicion among observers.
Former Democratic megadonors voiced strong disapproval of the autopsy, deeming it unnecessary as the reasons for the party’s losses are apparent.
Opinion columnist Ramesh Ponnuru from The Washington Post commented on the omissions in the report. He pointed out topics like President Joe Biden’s age, the border crisis, the party’s waning appeal to religious voters, and specific left-wing policies that taxpayers reject.
The report, first covered by CNN, claims that the party weakened its infrastructure by reducing voter registration and state party support and by failing to engage certain voter groups.
The report suggests focusing on Middle America and Southern voters, creating additional internal tensions. Ken Martin publicly distanced himself from the autopsy, claiming it didn’t meet his standards.
“I am not proud of this product; it does not meet my standards, and it won’t meet your standards,” Martin stated. He added that transparency was essential as he released the document in its complete, unedited form, annotating unverifiable claims.
Fox News Digital reached out to the DNC for comments but did not receive an immediate response.
