Dakota Johnson recently shared insights into her life and career during an interview with Vogue. The 36-year-old actress expressed her desire to start a family, stating, “I really do. I do, but for whatever reason, that’s the plan of the universe.” She feels a strong inclination toward motherhood, remarking on the presence of a soul “that wants to come through.” Johnson remains hopeful about this future possibility, though acknowledges it can be challenging to hear about friends and co-stars with families when “things turned out differently than I thought.”
Throughout the 2010s, Johnson became well-known for roles in films like “The Social Network” and “21 Jump Street.” She gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Anastasia Steele in “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Since then, her filmography has expanded with movies such as “Peanut Butter Falcon,” “Madame Web,” and “The Materialists.” However, Johnson now contemplates a shift toward living a more balanced life, stating, “I’ve worked back-to-back for so long that now I have this deep calling to shift my perspective a bit and maybe have a bit more of a real life.”
Johnson aims to live authentically and “lovingly embrace this life” after years of constant work commitments. Her latest project, “Verity,” is a psychological thriller based on Colleen Hoover’s novel, featuring co-stars Josh Hartnett and Anne Hathaway. Scheduled for release soon, Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh, a ghostwriter encountering unsettling surprises while completing a book series.
The director, Michael Showalter, encouraged her to explore a different artistic direction, suggesting “extremely camp” performances that differed from her usual style. Johnson appreciated the fun involved despite the genre’s unconventional tone. With a familial background steeped in acting, she is well-acquainted with Hollywood’s pressures. Her mother, Melanie Griffith, and father, Don Johnson, both have prominent acting careers. Her maternal grandmother, Tippi Hedren, is also a noted actress.
