Dallas Cowboys Struggle in Primetime Loss to Buccaneers

1 hour ago 0

Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer finds himself under pressure after a disappointing 24-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The game, held at AT&T Stadium, showed the Cowboys struggling against a team starting a rookie quarterback on his first career road game.

Dallas faced challenges on both sides of the ball. The defense, which ranks third-worst in yards allowed per game (389.5) and fifth-worst in points allowed (28), continued to falter under Schottenheimer and 34-year-old defensive coordinator Christian Parker. The offensive struggles were evident too, as quarterback Dak Prescott was unable to replicate his previous performance against the Houston Texans in Week 4.

Entering the game, the Cowboys were favorites, facing a Buccaneers team battling its own issues under head coach Todd Bowles. Despite the absence of starting quarterback Baker Mayfield, Bowles led his team to a surprising victory, highlighting the Cowboys’ ongoing difficulties.

The turning point came in the third quarter when Tampa Bay running back Bucky Irving ran 72 yards, setting up a touchdown by Emeka Egbuka. The Cowboys’ subsequent turnovers, including a Prescott interception and a fumble by KaVontae Turpin, contributed to their downfall.

Although a brief comeback attempt saw George Pickens scoring his first touchdown of the season, subsequent mistakes sealed their fate. A critical drop by tight end Jake Ferguson led to an interception by Buccaneers linebacker Alex Anzalone, allowing Tampa Bay to secure the win.

Despite having a 2-3 record compared to the Buccaneers’ 1-4, the loss raises questions about Schottenheimer’s future with the team. Dallas owner Jerry Jones expects results, and as the season progresses, the pressure on Schottenheimer intensifies.
