2 hours ago 0

On October 6, a traveler created havoc at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, California. The chaos began when a 26-year-old man from Everett, Washington, commandeered an airport tug vehicle, sparking a dangerous incident across the airfield.

The Incident Overview

According to Storyful, video footage captured the man maneuvering the tug recklessly, even reversing near a plane. Scheduled to fly from Santa Ana to Seattle on a Delta Air Lines flight, he gained unauthorized access to the airfield through Gate 12 at around 5:30 p.m.

Once on the tarmac, he took an Alaska Airlines tug, a type of ground vehicle used to transport baggage and equipment in airports. Fox 59 reports that the man later crashed the tug into another vehicle at Gate 7.

Delta’s Response and Safety Measures

“Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful behavior, and we take all incidents seriously,” said a Delta spokesperson to Fox News Digital. “Safety and security of our customers and staff are paramount, and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement.”

Delta Airlines assured there was no disruption to airport operations amidst the situation.

Authorities’ Actions

During his erratic behavior, the man attempted to steal an American Airlines lavatory service vehicle. Airport Police Services managed to apprehend him before he succeeded.

He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, facing charges of vehicle theft, trespassing, and vandalism. The arrest did not affect airport operations.
