The San Francisco 49ers have strengthened their receiving corps by bringing back a familiar face. Due to concerns over Ricky Pearsall’s knee injury during training camp, the team has signed former All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel to a one-year contract worth up to $7 million, as reported by ESPN.

Samuel began his NFL career with the 49ers when they selected him in the second round of the 2019 draft. The South Carolina standout played an integral part in helping the team reach the Super Bowl twice during his six-year stint. In 2021, he achieved All-Pro status by recording 1,770 yards from scrimmage and scoring 14 touchdowns.
In 2025, the Washington Commanders acquired Samuel for a fifth-round draft pick. Last season, he tallied 72 catches for 727 yards and scored five touchdowns for the Commanders.

After becoming a free agent in March, he now returns to the 49ers, ready to bolster their lineup amid Pearsall’s absence.
