Duolingo Introduces Streak Revival and New Features for 15th Anniversary

4 weeks ago 0

Duolingo is set to please many language learners with a much-anticipated update.

Returning Lost Streaks

As of Monday, June 1, Duolingo users who once had a learning streak of 30 days or more can reclaim it. By completing three lessons in one sitting, users have the chance to retrieve their previous streaks.

Streaks are earned by using the app multiple days in a row. Previously, missing a day meant the streak reset to zero. However, with the new update, users now have an option to recover their streak.

“Across more than 80 countries, streak recovery has been the highest feature request from Duolingo users.” — Cem Kansu, Chief Product Officer

For context, an unofficial Duolingo Streak Hall of Fame by Duome.eu lists the longest streak at 4,890 days. This impressive streak belongs to a user from Bethlehem who has been active nearly since Duolingo’s inception in 2011.

How to Restore Your Streak

Eligible users will find an option in the Duolingo mobile app to bring back a previously held streak. This feature will be available from June 1 to June 30.

Additional Updates

On June 1, Duolingo will also introduce several exciting new updates:

  • Expanded content for Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in nine languages.
  • New free experiences, including Speaking Adventures with real-life scenarios and vocabulary flashcards.
  • “Explain my Answer” feature to help users understand mistakes.
  • A practice hub to revisit past lessons.
  • Duolingo Score, illustrating progress through a standards-aligned curriculum.
  • New courses focusing on chess and math.
