E.U. Increases LNG Imports from Russia Despite Green Energy Goals

The European Union has long aimed to reduce dependency on fossil fuels. Despite these efforts, recent policies have inadvertently increased reliance on Russian natural gas.

In the first half of the year, E.U. countries purchased 9.89 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia’s Yamal LNG. This marks an 18 percent rise compared to the same time frame last year.

These figures highlight the ongoing challenge faced by the bloc in balancing energy needs with environmental objectives.
