A Catholic priest tragically lost his life during a live-streamed Mass in Guayaquil, Ecuador, when a wooden crucifix fell from a wall. Reverend Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari died on Saturday, according to the Archdiocese of Guayaquil.
During the service at Our Lady of Perpetual Help church, a crucifix dislodged and fatally struck him. The event was broadcast on the priest’s Facebook page, which has over 4,600 followers. The livestream captured the moment Sánchez, addressing the congregation, was hit by the falling crucifix and collapsed.
The Archdiocese shared the unfortunate news, noting that Sánchez had gone to the “House of the Father.” They extended condolences and support to his family and friends.
“Father, Father! Call an ambulance!” was heard from the congregation just before the livestream ended unexpectedly.
The footage, shocking and graphic, quickly gained attention on social media and news platforms worldwide. Despite the widespread coverage, local authorities have yet to issue a formal statement.
Sánchez was a member of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, a Roman Catholic religious order established in 1732, known for its global presence in 80 countries.
