Elliot Page, a transgender actor, recently shared insights about healthy masculinity on the podcast ‘It’s Open with Ilana Glazer.’ Known for roles in ‘Odyssey’ and other films, Page emphasized moving away from the tendency to emotionally shut down.
During the discussion, Page explained that as a public figure and someone undergoing a ‘gender journey,’ healthy masculinity involves rejecting societal expectations that encourage emotional closure. ‘Healthy masculinity, to me, is or even just something I’ve felt as, like, transitioning, is like leaning away from whenever there is some sort of impulse or expectation you’ve put on yourself to, like, shut down,’ Page expressed.
In 2020, Page came out as transgender and began using ‘he/they’ pronouns. Since then, Page has noticed changes in personal expressions, such as a newfound comfort in smiling in photos, unlike before. ‘I remember kind of being like, ‘Oh, Elliot, maybe you should talk with your hands a little less,’ he shared.
Page also mentioned experiences with male fans who hesitate to smile in photos, questioning whether he should adopt similar behavior. However, Page resists, recognizing the need to challenge such norms.
Healthy masculinity, Page suggests, includes simple self-care habits. Drinking water and practicing self-love are part of this mindset.
Page believes intentional actions are crucial in avoiding the pitfalls of toxic masculinity, such as violence and abuse. Healthy masculinity, as per Page, may even involve allowing oneself ‘a really good cry.’
Before transitioning, Page was known as Ellen Page, receiving an Oscar nomination for ‘Juno.’ Page has also appeared in films like ‘Inception’ and ‘X-Men.’ For further details, inquiries can be directed to Lindsay Kornick, associate editor for Fox News Digital.
