The family of Silverio Villegas Gonzalez, a Mexican immigrant who was shot and killed in the Chicago area, has taken legal action. They filed a wrongful-death lawsuit on Thursday, claiming the shooting was unlawful. The incident, involving a federal immigration officer, occurred during an immigration enforcement surge under the Trump administration.
The lawsuit accuses the officer of ‘effectively executing’ Gonzalez at close range. This tragic event has reportedly left his two children traumatized.
A vigil for Gonzalez was held in Franklin Park, Illinois, on September 15, 2025. It served as a poignant moment for the community to come together and remember him.
