Fireworks Mishap at BMO Stadium After Angel City FC Game

1 hour ago 0

A fireworks display at BMO Stadium faced issues on Friday night. During the show, fireworks unexpectedly veered into the stands, causing fans to move quickly to safety. Angel City FC had played against Orlando Pride at the stadium, marking a victorious return with a 2-0 win following a monthlong break. However, the excitement was disrupted by problems during the post-game fireworks celebration.

Videos capture the initial stages where the field was filled with tall sparks and thick smoke as numerous fireworks launched. The situation changed during the anticipated finale when some fireworks started moving horizontally instead of upwards, heading towards the audience. Jade Greenhut, a season ticket-holder, recorded the scene from her seat, where fans near the Angel City team bench had to dodge a stray firework. She described witnessing at least two fireworks entering the stands and fans scrambling to avoid them.

The spokesperson for the soccer club reported no serious injuries arose from the fireworks mishap. Stephanie Rudnick, the communications head for Angel City FC, confirmed they had hired a third-party vendor for the pyrotechnics.

Angel City FC acknowledged the incident, stating in an email that a malfunction occurred during the post-match festivities against Orlando. The team assured that medical and safety teams were prepared and the venue remained secure, allowing everyone to exit without harm. They are collaborating with the pyrotechnics vendor to examine the incident and consider future measures.

Greenhut noted that most fans had left during the 20-minute break between the match end and the fireworks, which spared a larger audience and potentially more injuries. By the time the stadium cleared, the atmosphere had become calmer. A ticket ambassador later offered apologies to her, stating similar events for the Los Angeles Football Club had gone smoothly in the past. Greenhut remains positive about the night’s events, praising the team’s performance. Looking forward, she suggested that utilizing drones might be a better option for future celebrations.
