Florida Gators Clinch Victory Against Texas Longhorns

43 minutes ago 0

The Florida Gators kicked off their 2026 season with a strong performance, currently holding a 4-0 record after a significant victory against Ole Miss in Week 4. Despite suffering two subsequent losses, Florida managed a comeback against Texas. In a surprising turn of events, a late-game sack-fumble by Arch Manning sealed a 30-27 victory for the Gators, overcoming the odds against them.

This marks another challenging game for Texas, recalling their 29-21 defeat to Florida in October 2025. That particular Florida team ended the season with a 4-8 record. Recent weeks have been tough for the Longhorns, who lost their No. 1 ranking after a painful loss to Oklahoma. As a result, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian is reevaluating the team’s strategy to regain their momentum.

“Everything’s going to be evaluated,” Sarkisian stated. Considering the possibility of changes, he mentioned, “It would be easy for me to say, ‘Hey, Arch was the problem today.’ Was Arch perfect? No. But nobody was perfect on offense today.”

Arch Manning, Texas’ quarterback, ended with 173 yards and one touchdown. Yet, the Longhorns faced five sacks from Florida, and their strategy needs adjustments. They completed only 50 offensive snaps, a record low in Sarkisian’s tenure. Previously successful against unranked teams, Texas now stands as the third team since 1936 to lose consecutively to unranked opponents after holding the No. 1 spot in the AP poll.

Sarkisian faces the challenge head-on, stating his disappointment and highlighting a need for comprehensive evaluation. His role in offensive playcalling might also come under scrutiny. He acknowledges the team’s underperformance and expresses, “We’re not playing very good football right now.” As they prepare to face Ole Miss next Saturday, the focus is on internal improvements to reset their path forward.
