Fog Disrupts Navy Pier’s Fireworks Display

1 hour ago 0

A dense fog completely obscured the Fourth of July fireworks display at Navy Pier on Saturday night. The event had been promoted as the largest and longest in the pier’s history in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. Despite the unfavorable weather, the show went on as planned, although the dense marine fog only allowed spectators to see colors glowing dimly through it.

Rainy conditions affected the region throughout Saturday. Cook County was under a severe thunderstorm warning until 7 p.m., highlighting the challenging weather for outdoor events. Navy Pier addressed the issue on social media early Sunday morning, expressing disappointment over the fog’s impact on fireworks visibility. They acknowledged how this affected the experience for guests.

In an effort to make amends, Navy Pier will continue hosting free fireworks displays on Wednesday and Saturday nights all the way through Labor Day. Additionally, as a special gesture, they will offer free rides on the Centennial Wheel starting at 6 p.m. every Wednesday night through Labor Day.
