Former Staffer Criticizes Senator Fetterman’s Senate Performance

2 weeks ago 0

A former staff member from Senator John Fetterman’s office has alleged that the Pennsylvania Democrat was reluctant to perform his basic congressional duties. This supports concerns from a Wall Street Journal report depicting Fetterman’s diminishing involvement in Senate work.

The staffer, granted anonymity due to current employment, confirmed the Journal’s portrayal of Fetterman as showing little interest in daily Senate responsibilities. Similar claims are echoed by a social media account named ‘Former Fetterman Staffers.’ Operated by previous aides, the account aims to reveal Fetterman’s true working habits.

‘Hello, Twitter. We’re a group of former campaign & Senate staffers for John Fetterman who are disgusted with what he’s become,’ the account announced on September 4. It criticized the Journal’s story as merely touching the surface of alleged issues.

Two ex-staffers informed The New York Times about the authenticity of the account, managed collectively. Through this platform, posts hint at forthcoming exposés involving stories and screenshots. Despite launching recently, the account has gained over 162,000 followers, drawing attention to Fetterman’s alleged disengagement, focusing more on media relations and pro-Israel advocacy than Senate duties.

Fetterman has rejected the Journal’s piece, labeling it as a ‘hit piece’ driven by former staffers’ accounts. He issued a statement to CNN, attributing it to ‘lies, half-truths, innuendos, smears’ and anonymous sources.

‘Journal’ Report Details Senator’s Alleged Apathy

Following the Journal’s findings, Fetterman is facing increasing calls to resign from his Senate position. Reportedly, he often skips critical hearings and avoids meetings with constituents and groups, focusing instead on media-facing events and pro-Israel stances.

For instance, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) personnel aimed for discussions on vaccines and Medicaid last September but were reportedly left unattended. Fetterman allegedly accused them of seeking free trips to D.C.

Despite acknowledging sending a related text, Fetterman defends its context. He clarified to CNN, deeming it a misguided joke and apologized sincerely, affirming consistent engagements with Pennsylvania health officials virtually and in person.

Allegations Build As Fetterman Distances From Democrats

Despite arriving as a progressive Democrat, Fetterman’s statements suggest a distancing from the party’s left wing and closer ties to GOP circles. Recent polls mirror this shift in voter perception.

An August poll found 73 percent Republican favorability for Fetterman, exceeding his Republican counterpart, with only 22 percent Democratic support. A Quinnipiac University survey further depicted Democrat disapproval at 69 percent and 77 percent Republican approval.

Such evolving stances have prompted speculation about Fetterman’s potential party departure. Although denying immediate plans, he fuels doubts regarding his political trajectory.

He recently appeared at a GOP midterm convention identifying as a ‘common-sense Democrat,’ promising to oppose extreme views and socialism.
