Frank Stronach Convicted of Sexual Assault

2 weeks ago 0

Frank Stronach, a prominent figure in the auto parts industry and one of Canada’s wealthiest individuals, has been found guilty of sexual assault and indecent assault in two separate cases. The incidents occurred decades ago and culminated in a trial held in Toronto.

Justice Anne Molloy of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice delivered the verdict, which also included an acquittal on three additional charges involving two other women. Stronach, now 93 years old, faced multiple accusations dating back to incidents between the 1970s and 1990s. He pleaded not guilty to all charges, which were brought forward by seven different complainants.

Magna International, the company Stronach founded, began as a small operation in a rented garage and evolved into a global powerhouse. It expanded its operations beyond manufacturing parts to assembling vehicles for several well-known automakers, including Mercedes-Benz. During his leadership, Magna made unsuccessful attempts to acquire automakers like Chrysler and Opel, the European division of General Motors at the time.

In addition to his business ventures, Stronach was known for making controversial public remarks about women. In 2007, during an annual shareholders’ meeting amidst his bid for Chrysler, he asked attendees to choose between himself and his aide, Manfred Gingl, on who was more attractive to women.

The charges Stronach faced largely involved women he encountered through Magna or other businesses he led. This high-profile case marks a significant decline for a man who once achieved Canada’s highest civilian honor.
