Graham Rahal is gearing up to join around two dozen drivers racing through Washington, D.C., in the Freedom Grand Prix 250. The event takes place as the United States marks its 250th anniversary. Rahal, along with others, shared his thoughts during the IndyCar Grand Prix Media Preview held on Thursday.
Rahal, representing Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, expressed his excitement about the significance of participating in such a race in the nation’s capital. “As an American, this is an iconic moment,” Rahal noted. He highlighted open-wheel racing’s global influence but emphasized the unique honor of racing in front of Capitol Hill and on Pennsylvania Avenue.
For Rahal, the experience is enriched by the strong American symbolism of racing with the “red, white and blue,” along with the presence of friends and military personnel. He eagerly anticipates the challenge and thrill of the track, saying he’s restraining the excitement he feels inside.
The race weekend kicks off with the first IndyCar practice session at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday. FS1 will broadcast this session live, while FS2 broadcasts the later practice session and qualifying rounds. The racecourse is set along Pennsylvania Avenue, providing a stunning backdrop as preparations finalizing for the inaugural two-day event.
On Sunday, race day begins with driver warm-ups at 9 a.m. ET on FS1. The main event completes with the green flag dropping at 1 p.m. ET, live on FOX.
