Gregg Allman’s influence in the music world has been celebrated through a new documentary titled The Music of My Soul, which recently debuted in New York City. This film includes an array of Allman’s iconic music alongside a track by country artist Jackson Dean.
The track, “My Cross to Bear,” features at the close of the film and pays homage to Allman’s contributions to music with hits like “Midnight Rider,” “Whipping Post,” and “I’m No Angel.”
Brian Levy of Subtext remarked, “Gregg Allman’s music is woven into the fabric of American culture, and this film captures both the artistry and the humanity behind the legend.” He added that the film offers devoted fans rare insights and archival material, aiming to introduce Gregg’s legacy to new audiences.
Subtext, an independent U.S. film company, secured the North American rights to the documentary. In his statement, Michael Lehman expressed his gratitude for having worked with Allman. He stated, “This film captures his true essence, and it’s profoundly meaningful to share his remarkable story. Gregg’s music will continue to bring joy to future generations.”
Following its premiere on June 9 in New York, the documentary will be shown in Macon, Georgia, on June 11. It will also have limited screenings in Los Angeles and New York for a week before its nationwide release on June 17. Screening details can be found on the film’s official website.
