Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin criticized ABC and NBC on Friday for not broadcasting President Donald Trump’s election-security speech on their networks. Mullin accused these networks of withholding important information from the public as the midterms approach.
Mullin’s Remarks
Mullin expressed his discontent with their decision, saying, ‘How shameful is that? ABC and NBC not carrying that.’ He questioned why they wouldn’t want to inform the public and why they call themselves news outlets if they are not delivering news.
Network Choices
The networks ABC, NBC, and CNN chose not to air Trump’s primetime address live on their broadcast platforms. CBS aired part of the speech but later cut away, while Fox News broadcasted the entire speech live. ABC and NBC offered the speech via streaming instead.
‘Two major networks didn’t want to cover it? I think the question really should say why. Because they sure covered the other part of it when they were saying that it was the most secure election ever,’ Mullin said.
Mullin emphasized that Trump presented facts with declassified information, contrasting it with past assurances about the 2020 election that lacked evidence.
Trump’s Announcement
Trump revealed previously classified intelligence indicating vulnerabilities in voting infrastructure and foreign attempts to access American voter data. He urged Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, focusing on federal voter ID and proof-of-citizenship requirements.
Trump also criticized ABC and NBC for not airing his speech, suggesting that they protect a flawed system and the radical left, thus preventing fair elections.
Calls for Regulatory Action
Mullin described the networks’ actions as ‘shameful,’ questioning whether they were hiding something. Trump argued that such actions should result in regulatory consequences, suggesting license revocation.
‘Fraud like this should mean a revocation of their licenses,’ he stated, noting the use of public airwaves.
