House GOP investigators emphasize their ongoing scrutiny of ActBlue, following a revealing report that ignites concerns about foreign donations and congressional deception. ActBlue, a major platform used by Democrats like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, is under fire.
“Whether it’s allowing fraudsters to steal taxpayer dollars or accepting illegal foreign donations through ActBlue, Democrats have proven themselves to be the party of fraud. Our investigation into ActBlue is far from over. We expect more documents and testimony in the weeks ahead,” said James Comer, House Oversight Committee Chairman.
Republicans have persistently critiqued ActBlue’s donor verification. Despite ActBlue’s improvements, recent findings suggest questionable donation practices. Employees allegedly approved donations with uncertain origins, sparking further inquiry.
During a congressional hearing on prevention of fraudulent donations, CEO Regina Wallace-Jones exercised her Fifth Amendment rights, avoiding responses to specific questions. Despite this, ActBlue insists on adherence to proper procedures and has no intention of returning donations mentioned in reports.
Questions Raised About Verification Practices
Chairman Bryan Steil highlighted flaws in ActBlue’s passport verification process, claiming it fails to validate against government databases. ActBlue remains committed to facing all options to address concerns about its practices.
Reports indicate that employees and board members invoked the Fifth Amendment, shielding themselves from questioning. Noteworthy is the issue about the passport verification process’s lack of rigorous checking, raising doubts about its integrity.
Further Depositions Planned
Jim Jordan’s House Judiciary Committee supports ongoing oversight. Depositions and testimonies will continue despite potential challenges in yielding actionable insights.
An internal memo reveals some donations were approved despite having ‘red flags,’ like inconsistent IP addresses or foreign connections. Other communications suggest employees supported questionable contributions after confirming donor identity through social media.
Amid accusations, ActBlue employees defend the platform, viewing allegations as politically motivated attacks. They express commitment to maintaining transparency in donation processes.
Republican Demand for Action
The GOP insists Democrats sever connections with ActBlue, urging the return of all problematic donations. Republicans press for accountability as they address what they perceive as serious allegations.
Despite demands, ActBlue refuses to return donations, referencing a forensic analysis that counteracts key accusations. They view the investigation as a mere political maneuver aimed at silencing perceived opposition.
