Husband of Missing North Carolina Woman in Grenada Confirms Belief of No Foul Play

The husband of Elizabeth Waddell, a North Carolina woman who vanished while visiting Grenada, stated that he believes there was no foul play involved in her disappearance. Elizabeth Waddell disappeared last week while on vacation in the Caribbean.

Cailen Waddell, Elizabeth’s husband, issued a statement indicating that the investigation will delve into tracking her movements prior to her disappearance. He emphasized that every detail is important.

Security footage last captured Waddell swimming near Grand Anse Beach on July 22 around noon. According to the Royal Grenada Police Force, witnesses claimed to have interacted with her later that evening at 5:30 p.m. further from the shore.

“After consulting with family, local authorities, the U.S. Embassy, and others here in Grenada, I share the belief that there was no foul play,” Cailen Waddell stated. “Liz was last witnessed swimming near Grand Anse, far from the shore, communicating her confidence and love for the island’s beauty.”

Elizabeth, aged 44, was on a three-week vacation with her close friend Heather when she disappeared. When she did not return to the Airbnb, Heather went searching and found only her towel, with no other trace of her friend.

A friend of Elizabeth, Amanda Romano-Harmon, mentioned that surveillance footage showed her “floating” and “swimming around” but then drifting out of the camera’s view. Elizabeth was recorded walking towards a pier around 11:30 a.m., entering the water shortly after noon, and swimming under the pier, as reported by Acting Police Commissioner Randy Connaught.

Cailen Waddell described his wife as “a loving and free-spirited person,” adding she was easily approachable and made friends with ease.

Authorities urge anyone with information about Waddell’s whereabouts to report it immediately. The U.S. State Department has acknowledged her disappearance.
