ICE Officer Involved in Shooting During Austin Operation

2 weeks ago 0

Recently, a Democratic congressman demanded answers regarding an incident involving an ICE officer allegedly shooting someone during a Sunday morning operation in Austin, Texas. The city’s leaders plan to address this “Immigration and Customs Enforcement shooting” in a news conference scheduled for 4 p.m. at Austin City Hall. Mayor Kirk Watson, Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis, and Austin-Travis County EMS Chief Robert Luckritz are set to speak.

The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was conducting an investigation in the 7000 block of West Anderson Lane. However, details on whether there were injuries remain undisclosed. A DPS public information officer reported that ICE is overseeing the investigation.

“ICE investigation confirmed in the 7000 block of West Anderson, ICE is handling investigation,”

In a post on X, Rep. Greg Casar, D-Texas, stated that “ICE has shot a person in Austin this morning” and advocated for a comprehensive independent investigation and immediate disclosure of body-camera footage. He expressed concerns about transparency and accountability from ICE.

“Over and over, ICE has shot people and then lied about what happened,” Casar wrote.

Details on the shooting have yet to be released by authorities. This incident occurs amid heightened tensions surrounding federal immigration enforcement across the nation.

In previous clashes, anti-ICE protesters gathered outside New Jersey’s Delaney Hall immigration detention center, resulting in conflicts after defying a state police directive. Newark Mayor Ras Baraka criticized the methods employed by troopers to secure the facility, which had become a frequent demonstration site.

Federal immigration operations have come under scrutiny in Minnesota as well, following fatal shootings in the area. Renee Good was killed by an ICE agent after reportedly attempting to run over federal officers with her vehicle, while Alex Pretti was shot by a U.S. Border Patrol agent as he recorded federal officers.

Fox News Digital reached out to ICE, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Austin Police Department for further information.
