Authorities have identified the victim of the Times Square stabbing incident on Monday afternoon. Erin Piacenti, 32, from Chester, New Jersey, was stabbed in the abdomen and later died at a hospital. The incident occurred near 41st Street and Seventh Avenue, a busy tourist area.

The attacker, identified by police as Pamela Cisneros, a 49-year-old woman from Queens, has a history of mental health issues. Cisneros was shot dead by police after the attack, which also involved the stabbing of a 68-year-old man.

The male victim had just exited the subway with his wife when Cisneros approached them. Witnesses reported that she retrieved knives from a red Target bag before brandishing them and stabbing the man in the side. Piacenti was attacked shortly after. Both stabbings occurred within a span of approximately 20 seconds.

Law enforcement sources believe the attacks were random and not connected to terrorism. The injured man was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he is recovering.

Following the attacks, Cisneros continued along Seventh Avenue. Police encountered her between 42nd and 43rd streets. Despite repeated instructions to drop her weapons, she remained armed with both knives.

Officers attempted to subdue her using stun guns, which were ineffective. Cisneros advanced toward the officers, leading two of them to open fire. She was transported to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

NYPD records show documented mental health concerns for Cisneros in 2018 and 2019. However, she had no criminal record. Investigators have recovered both knives reportedly used in the attack.

“Our thoughts are with the victims and their families,” stated Tisch. “A life was tragically ended by a senseless act of violence.” More details about Piacenti are expected to be released soon.
