The Indiana Fever faced a challenging start to the postseason, entering the playoffs without momentum after a significant loss to the Minnesota Lynx. Their playoff opener did little to reverse their fortunes.
In the first match of the first-round series, the Las Vegas Aces overpowered the Fever with a decisive 102-85 victory. The Aces’ standout player, A’ja Wilson, led the charge with an impressive display, finishing with 38 points and 16 rebounds, making a substantial impact on both sides of the court.
Indiana had shown the ability to challenge the defending champions during the regular season, raising hopes among fans. However, Las Vegas quickly established control, building a lead that reached 27 points, leaving Indiana struggling throughout most of the second half.
The Indiana Fever’s poor performance in their last regular-season game against the Lynx set the stage. Despite Caitlin Clark’s double-double performance with 15 points, 10 assists, and three rebounds, the Fever struggled under the pressure of Las Vegas’ relentless defense. Clark’s day was marred by shooting difficulties, with only six successful shots out of 18 and six turnovers.
Kelsey Mitchell also faced challenges with her shooting, contributing 12 points and three assists but hitting only four of her 16 attempts. Aliyah Boston led the Fever with 18 points, along with eight rebounds and four assists, while Sophie Cunningham added 13 points from the bench, including three three-pointers.
With the series heading to Indianapolis for Game 2 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Fever are eager to defend their home court. They need a victory to extend the series and keep their playoff hopes alive.
