Several American military planes were damaged following Iranian strikes on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. The incident occurred overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, according to sources familiar with the situation. An A-10 Thunderbolt, commonly known as the Warthog, lost a wing due to the attack. Additionally, approximately eight F-15s suffered minor damage, though they returned to service soon after.
No casualties were reported among U.S. personnel. The attacks followed U.S. operations against five Iranian tankers, a response to Iran’s prior targeting of a U.S. Navy warship. In retaliation, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched strikes that included the Jordanian base.
U.S. forces stationed in Jordan utilized over 30 Patriot missiles in defense against these Iranian strikes. However, this raised concerns about dwindling supplies of these precision munitions, as previously reported.
President Trump addressed the situation, suggesting Iran’s actions aimed to influence upcoming midterm elections. He speculated that hostilities might cease after the elections, believing Iran sought to install a more lenient administration willing to leave them unchecked regarding nuclear ambitions. Despite acknowledging the possibility of negotiations, Trump stated these were not a current priority.
