Jack Smith Faces Tough Questioning Over Trump Investigations

1 day ago 0

Former special counsel Jack Smith appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee where Republican senators questioned him regarding alleged political overreach related to his investigations of former President Donald Trump. This intense grilling took place amidst claims that Smith’s probes into Trump were motivated by politics.

Separately, evidence presented to a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., may involve former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson. The investigation centers on potential false statements made by Hutchinson to the congressional committee probing the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

According to insider information, more evidence could be submitted to the grand jury soon. Hutchinson, previously a primary aide to ex-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, was among the significant witnesses before the committee investigating the Capitol riot and Trump’s actions regarding the 2020 election outcomes.

“Cassidy Hutchinson stands by all of the testimony she provided to the January 6 Committee,” she declared.

Her testimony during a televised hearing in June 2022 included a narrative about Trump’s behaviors on January 6. Hutchinson recounted an incident described to her by a fellow aide about Trump’s reaction when he learned he couldn’t go to the Capitol. This account was disputed by others familiar with the situation.

Currently, it’s uncertain which parts of Hutchinson’s statements to Congress are under grand jury review. Reports from The New York Post suggest that the Department of Justice is investigating the possibility of false claims made by Hutchinson to Congress. Although the grand jury is reviewing evidence, such proceedings don’t necessarily lead to criminal charges.

The Justice Department didn’t provide a comment regarding the investigation, nor did Hutchinson’s attorney respond to inquiries.
