The regular NFL season has yet to commence, but Jayden Daniels is already under scrutiny. The New York Mets joined the online community in mocking the Washington Commanders’ quarterback. This came after Daniels sent a cease-and-desist letter to his alma mater, LSU, concerning the use of his name, image, and likeness.
Following the Mets’ 4-1 victory over the Washington Nationals, the team made a jesting comment about Daniels on X. The Mets wrote, “Stopped at 4 out of respect for Jayden Daniels,” taking a playful jab at the quarterback.
Daniels, who secured the Heisman Trophy with LSU in 2023, appeared upset about head coach Lane Kiffin’s decision to let DJ Pickett wear his No. 5 jersey. Daniels expressed his feelings on social media, stating, “I have been locked in on training camp and that’s been my number one focus. I have a lot of gratitude for my time at LSU and I’m proud of what my teammates and I accomplished there.” He further shared, “Obviously there are issues to be worked out between my team and LSU and my hope is that it will get done privately.”
Jayden Daniels indicated his aim was solely on football with the Commanders, saying, “My sole personal focus is on Commanders’ football. I realize the business of football is unique and I trust this can all be resolved.”
Despite Daniels’ attempts to downplay the situation, social media continues to react. StubHub, a ticketing platform, teased by announcing it will not offer tickets in groups of five, “out of respect for Daniels.”
The former LSU star likely hopes that when the regular season begins, any challenges he faces will be on-field, rather than online.
