Jesse Watters and El-Sayed Debate Gender-Affirming Care for Minors

Jesse Watters engaged in a heated debate with Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed over gender-affirming treatment for minors. This debate took place on Fox News, highlighting differing viewpoints on how healthcare decisions should be made for young individuals.

Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, a Democrat, emphasized that healthcare decisions are personal and should involve parents, patients, and doctors. Watters, however, questioned the role of parental consent in irreversible procedures for children.

During the segment, Watters asked El-Sayed if he supports sex changes for minors. El-Sayed avoided a direct answer and instead highlighted that the government should not restrict the healthcare options available to individuals, implying a preference for personal autonomy in healthcare decisions.

El-Sayed also referenced circumcision, drawing parallels between it and gender-affirming surgeries, as both involve parental consent. He suggested this issue reflects selective government intervention in personal medical decisions.

Watters responded critically to these analogies, affirming that such practices are unacceptable in Michigan. He swiftly shifted the discussion to another contentious issue regarding transgender athletes in women’s sports.

El-Sayed initially hesitated to address Watters’ questions about athletics, remarking that the host was not focusing on priority issues like healthcare and the cost of living in Michigan. He believes such matters should be regulated by sports governing bodies rather than politicians.

Beyond gender-related topics, the conversation also touched on wealth taxes, religious freedom, and international policy, with El-Sayed steering the discussion towards broader economic issues facing the working class.

El-Sayed is currently a candidate for Michigan’s U.S. Senate seat, running against Republican Mike Rogers. He holds a doctorate in public health from Oxford University and a medical degree from Columbia University.
