Katy Perry had to cancel her headline performance at Belgium’s Werchter Boutique festival shortly before it was set to happen. Severe weather predictions led officials to halt the outdoor event. Perry expressed her regret on Instagram, acknowledging she had no say in the decision.
She wrote, “Sadly my set at Werchter Boutique can’t happen due to a government-mandated cancellation because of the incoming inclement weather and crowd safety concerns.” Perry explained she was backstage preparing for the show when she was informed of the decision and shared her disappointment alongside her fans.
“Unfortunately, this is beyond my control, but the safety of all 55,000 of you always comes first and foremost. I am sorry I can’t change the weather,” wrote Perry. “I was looking forward to being back after 17 years, wearing the same outfit from the 2009 show.”
Perry’s performance was to be her first at Festivalpark Werchter since July 2009, when she performed during the Rock Werchter festival as part of her Hello Katy tour. At that time, she was touring following her 2008 debut album “One of the Boys.” Perry shared a backstage photo in her Instagram post, sitting in a white robe with her costume ready beside her. Her set was planned to start at 10 p.m. after Pitbull’s performance.
The festival’s official statement posted by Perry read, “Werchter Boutique will end after Pitbull’s concert. Following consultation with the Rock Werchter safety committee, which includes all authorities and the organization, it has been decided that Werchter Boutique will end at 9 p.m. due to a forecast of severe thunderstorms.”
The termination of the festival was intended to allow attendees to leave safely and orderly. The safety and well-being of visitors were prioritized. Perry missed an opportunity to connect again with the audience at Werchter after so many years.
Recently, Perry performed at the FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony in Los Angeles. She premiered her 2024 song “Wonder” with young Norwegian singer Tius. Her boyfriend Justin Trudeau attended the opening ceremony in support.
Perry also released a new single, “Watch It Burn,” as she continues her European tour, playing at multiple festivals and concerts. Her next performance is scheduled at DEPOT Live at Cardiff Castle, part of a summer event series in Wales.
