Mason Adams, a right-handed pitcher acquired by the Colorado Rockies from the Chicago White Sox during the trade deadline, is ready to make his Major League Baseball debut. Adams quickly showed his potential in the minor leagues following his move on August 3.
In the Pacific Coast League, known for its hitter-friendly ballparks, Adams excelled. He allowed only one run over nine innings across two home starts for Triple-A Albuquerque. Overall, he yielded just three runs and nine hits in 13 innings after the trade.
Adams, 26, will start for the Rockies against the Washington Nationals, as announced by Thomas Harding of MLB.com via social media. The Rockies acquired Adams and infielder Carlos Vielma in exchange for outfielder Brenton Doyle.
Before the trade, Adams had a 3-4 record with a 3.86 ERA in 49 innings across three minor league levels, tallying 48 strikeouts. He spent the last nine outings with Triple-A Charlotte, posting a 3-3 record with a 4.25 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 36 innings.
“The start against the Nationals is a fitting milestone for Adams,” a source noted. His journey back to the mound follows his 2025 absence due to Tommy John surgery.
The Rockies are also bringing up another right-handed pitcher, Blake Adams, due to an injury to veteran left-hander Kyle Freeland. Freeland is heading to the 15-day injured list with a pinched nerve in his neck. Blake Adams will debut after a challenging season with a 2-5 record and an 8.10 ERA in 17 games for Albuquerque.
Infielder Carlos Vielma has impressed with a .452/.553/.548 slash line in nine games at the Dominican Summer League since joining the Rockies. Both Adams and Vielma have already made a positive impression on the organization.
The Rockies anticipate great potential from Mason Adams as they look to the future. Stay updated with more MLB news at Newsweek Sports.
