Medical Emergency Interrupts New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers Practice

A joint training session between the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in New Jersey took a concerning turn on Tuesday. The practice at the Jets’ Florham Park facility paused following an apparent medical emergency involving a player.

Cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers of the Jets was the center of attention as medical personnel attended to him on the field. He was removed via ambulance and received an IV treatment according to ESPN reports. Head coach Aaron Glenn explained that Stiggers briefly lost consciousness but was stable and communicating afterward.

Coach Glenn applauded the swift action of the medical team present at the scene. Despite temperatures reaching 85 degrees, which had climbed near triple digits over the weekend, Stiggers was reported to be “for the most part…good.”

Stiggers’ involvement in the day’s events went beyond his medical scare, as the practice saw at least three confrontations, one involving him. His path to the NFL did not follow the traditional college route; instead, he started in the Fan Controlled League straight out of high school and later joined the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Toronto Argonauts.

In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Jets selected Stiggers in the fifth round, making him the first player since 1999 to be drafted directly from the CFL. Last season, he featured in 15 games, recording 27 tackles and recovering two fumbles.
