Mitchell Robinson Signs with Boston Celtics After Knicks Championship Win

1 hour ago 0

The New York Knicks, fresh off their first championship in 53 years, are seeing a shift in their roster. Although they retained Jose Alvarado, the first significant change involves Mitchell Robinson. The defensive center has signed a three-year contract with the Boston Celtics.

Robinson’s move from the Knicks has sparked reactions from several former teammates. Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and OG Anunoby expressed their sentiments on Robinson’s farewell Instagram post. Robinson’s reply to Anunoby, who commented with a sad emoji, suggested the Knicks may not have wanted him back. Robinson replied, “I tried brother I didn’t want this to happen hopefully the truth comes out at some point. I’m gonna miss you big dawg! Keep being great.”

James Dolan, the Knicks’ owner, made his financial intentions clear post-victory, stating he had no interest in crossing the NBA’s second payroll threshold, which he described as “suicidal.” This statement hinted at roster changes, particularly with Brunson needing compensation for his pay cut taken to secure the championship.

Robinson played a crucial role in the Knicks’ triumph over the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. His pivotal offensive rebound off a missed free throw helped secure the title. Drafted in the second round in 2018, Robinson experienced a rough start with the team, who went 17-65 in his rookie season.

Now, Robinson joins a restructured Celtics lineup, bringing his championship experience to Boston.
