Mullin Criticizes Democrats on Border Security, Omar’s Legislation

2 weeks ago 0

Markwayne Mullin, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, criticized Democratic efforts to reduce funding for border protection. He responded to President Donald Trump’s approval of a $70 billion bill supporting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) until 2029. Mullin accused Democrats of attempting to strip resources from border security.

Mullin highlighted concerns with “sanctuary” cities and the increasing arrests of illegal immigrants charged with felonies. He emphasized the Trump administration’s strict measures against individuals harboring criminals and those who attack law enforcement.

Meanwhile, conservatives are opposing legislation introduced by Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. The legislation aims to divert over $100 billion from immigration enforcement to benefit communities affected by the Department of Homeland Security’s operations. Omar’s “Make ICE Pay Act” proposes using nearly $140 billion of ICE and Border Patrol funding from Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” for local recovery efforts. This includes supporting schools, healthcare services, and small businesses, among others. The Department of Housing and Urban Development would manage the program, set to expire three years after its inception.

“ICE has been tearing through our nation, devastating our neighborhoods, our cities, and our businesses,” Omar stated online regarding the legislation.

The bill faces challenges as Republicans control Congress and the White House. Conservatives criticize the legislation as prioritizing illegal immigrants over law enforcement. Sen. Jim Banks of Indiana described it as un-American and claimed it undermines law enforcement. Influencers have also expressed disdain, labeling it as placing America last. Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders questioned the expected outcome of weakening border security, suggesting it would not lead to safer communities.

Meanwhile, Omar’s opponent, John Nagel, accused her of harming the nation, positioning her as anti-police and supportive of communism.

White House border czar Tom Homan confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security is investigating allegations involving Omar. Although he avoided sharing details, he acknowledged that the investigation pertains to something reported previously. Omar has consistently denied accusations of immigration fraud.

The discussion surrounding these issues continues. Fox News reached out to Omar for comments, while the allegations against her remain unproven in public records. Omar previously dismissed these claims as false and motivated by bigotry.
