Mundelein’s junior second baseman, Devin Hill, played a key role in their 13-3 triumph over Oswego, the reigning Class 4A champion, during the six-inning state semifinal held at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex on Friday. Hill contributed significantly by going 2-for-4 and driving in three runs. He hit a run-scoring single in the first inning followed by a two-run single in the third inning. These efforts helped the Mustangs establish an early 8-0 lead over the Panthers.
The Mustangs, boasting a 23-5 record, are set to face Lincoln-Way West, which holds a 29-7 record, in their inaugural state championship game scheduled for 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.
Senior center fielder Kieley Tomas also made a substantial impact, achieving three hits and three RBIs. Additionally, junior shortstop Taylor Pyke contributed with two hits and two RBIs, enhancing the team’s offensive performance.
Senior pitcher Shae Johnson, who previously led Mundelein to the state semifinals in 2024, made a strong comeback after a shoulder surgery. She yielded three runs on six hits and one walk, striking out nine batters in the process.
