Netflix is making significant moves in the sports broadcasting world. Recently, they hired former ESPN anchor Elle Duncan as their first full-time on-air sports anchor. Duncan will lead coverage for live sports and special events on the platform.
In addition to Duncan, Netflix has secured Ryan Clark’s The Pivot Podcast for a multi-year deal. This indicates Netflix’s strong interest in expanding its reach in the sports coverage domain. Some sports fans, however, are questioning Netflix’s approach, suggesting that focusing on social issues may alienate a segment of its audience.
Meanwhile, Thomas Pannone made headlines with an outstanding performance in Triple-A baseball. Pannone, a former Major League pitcher, delivered a perfect game for the Nashville Sounds against the Durham Bulls. The 32-year-old pitcher retired all 27 batters on just 94 pitches, marking the first nine-inning, single-pitcher perfect game in Minor League Baseball since 2017.
Pannone, who has played in several leagues and teams, including the Toronto Blue Jays, has been known for flirting with baseball milestones. During his stint with the Blue Jays, he carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning during his Big League debut against Baltimore.
His recent performance has fueled discussions about a potential return to the Major Leagues. Since leaving Toronto in 2020, Pannone has played in the minor league systems of the Cubs, Angels, and Yankees, and had a stint in the Korean Baseball Organization. His remarkable perfect game in Triple-A might open up new opportunities for him.
For sports enthusiasts and baseball fans, the career trajectory of Thomas Pannone remains one to watch.
